preschool education

.
Our preschool education (for three to five year olds) provides the basis on which the primary and the secondary education is built. We use a modified Montessori approach that encourages the child to explore and develop his/her own interests while at the same time providing the child with the necessary literacy and numeracy skills that he/she will need in order to enter primary school. Emphasis is also given to music, movement, art and the development of social skills.

Only thirty children are accepted into the preschool each school year. The preschool is organized and taught by a qualified teacher who is helped by two assistants. The ratio of children to teacher/assistant is never more than 10 to 1.

primary education .

The American Academy’s primary education concentrates on the development of the basic skills of literacy and numeracy. Emphasis is also given to science, social studies, physical education, art, and music. All lessons are taught in English with the exception of 6 periods per week of Greek language to all students of Greek descent, and French to all other pupils. Class size is limited to 22 pupils per class and individual or small group English as a Second Language instruction is provided for non-native speakers of English as needed.

secondary education .

The secondary school provides a sound general education leading to the American High School Diploma. The full course of studies at the secondary school is seven years. The first three classes are preparatory, while the other four are academic. The program in the first two academic classes prepares the students for their IGCSE and GCE examinations at “Ordinary” level, and the LCCI examinations at “Elementary” level. The last two academic classes prepare students for their “Advanced” and “Higher” levels.
