School Principal's Welcome
Welcome to the American Academy Nicosia one of the oldest schools on the island with a special place in the development of education in Cyprus. The school provides the highest quality education in a caring environment for children from 3 to 19 years of age. A particular strength of the school is the family atmosphere and the way students of all ages care for each other and are known personally by their teachers. A Christian ethos and holistic approach to education ensures that each student is valued and cherished. We endeavour to give every student, irrespective of background or creed, the opportunity to achieve academically, intellectually, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
The school is international; this multinational character of the school fosters peaceful coexistence with an appreciation and respect for other cultures, beliefs and traditions. The Academy is a vibrant, exciting place to be in, where young people can develop into the leaders of the future.
The American Academy Nicosia is, and always has been, a ‘not for profit’ Education Foundation that is entirely funded on income from fees. We receive no subsidies from any other source and we own our campus and buildings. This enables us to offer, what I believe to be, the most competitive fees and best value for money. All income is used for the running of the school and its development.
The curriculum we follow is the British National Curriculum starting in Pre-school with Early Years Foundation targets through to GCSE, IGCSE, AS and A2. The programmes of study are cohesive and integrated facilitating transition between the Key Stages. At Primary level, Key Stages 1 and 2, we have an emphasis on English and follow the Big Cats reading scheme and associated materials overseen by a Literacy Coordinator. At Key Stage 3 students take the CAT test which gives us an indication of potential enabling us to track individual student progress.
When students complete Year 13 they will be awarded an Apolytirion (school leaving certificate) which is validated and recognised by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Cyprus. The Apolytirion is recognised for entry into Universities in Cyprus, Europe and further abroad.
The breadth of choice and opportunity with excellent examination results means that the American Academy Nicosia offers an excellent investment for the future of your children.
Mr. G.A. Onesti
